Autumn Praise

A new ballad by Simon Oak, inspired by the beauty of the Autumn trees in Germany this October.

Lyrics

When the leaves change their colours
From Summer’s green to Autumn yellow
Every shade of brown and red
A pleasure to the eye
And the first ones are falling
The others soon to follow
Dancing on the wind
Such an easy way to die

When the woods show their beauty
The silent dripping from the branches
The mossy rocks, the pearly drops
On spider webs and flowers
Restless bats, busy squirrels
Caching hazelnuts and berries
Hedgehogs gathering leaves
To survive the darkest hours

And does anybody know
Where the bumblebees go
While the girls have left the hive
For a life of their own?
Well, these bee boys stay loyal
To their old mammy royal
Just to die hard working men
And feed the robin and the wren

Isn’t nature amazing
And isn’t death a new beginning?
Growing old can make us sad
But we’re no bumblebees
Here’s to new generations
And to the other side of winning
To the beauty of old age
Like the colours of the trees!
