Making Music connects people. We need it more than ever!
To make the music do its magical work of connecting people, I encourage you to join my Playing Low initiative. The idea is super simple and anyone can join in.
It’s not a session.
It’s not a stage.
It’s not a festival.
It’s not a concert.
It’s not an organization.
Playing Low is the concept of a safe public place, where you can walk in unannounced, sit down with your guitar and play the song you just learned at home.
It’s super easy to start Playing Low!
If you run a community centre, a freestore or a thrift store, ask yourself:
- Do we have a quiet corner to sit around a table with musical instruments?
- Are there any local musicians around?
- Would live music be welcome at certain times?
If you are a musician, ask yourself:
- Would I like to play my music in a friendly place, where people might listen?
- Am I open to meet other musicians and support them when they play?
- Do I look for musical experiments with random musicians?
- Where can I test my new repertoire unannounced?
You might not count yourself as a true musician, but just a few songs is enough for Playing Low!
How to get started?
- Find a safe, public space and declare it a Playing Low spot
- Set a recurrent schedule, like “every Saturday at 1:30 pm.”
- Spread the word. That’s all, don’t make it big!
