Hit By A Christmas Tree

A new song by Simon Oak to the melody of Tommy Makem’s Rambles of Spring. It challenges you learn a Dutch word: Fiets = Bicylce (noun) or Cycle (1st person verb), sounds like “feats”. The song is based on the real experience of abandoned Christmas trees, taken by strong gusts of wind, suddenly crossing the streets.

Lyrics

Chorus after every verse:
Well it’s great to be here
To be wishing you a New Year
Without misery and things that make you cry
And may your old Christmas Tree
Travel through the air for free
Without crashing on the occasional passer-by

I feel happy when I fiets
Cruising narrow tracks and streets
Even when the wind’s remodelling my hair
But the fifth of January
I got hit by a Christmas Tree
From a balcony ’twas traveling by air

It hit me right between the eyes
No I’m telling you no lies
I feel lucky having wondrously survived
With a scratch above my nose
And its needles in my clothes
But with branches in my wheels I can not ride

If the rain is pouring down
And you have no friends in town
And you want to dump your Xm3 for free
Be aware your friend can fly
And the storm can take it high
So it might decide to leave your balcony.
